GANDA (Double)

GANDA(Double) is the category in which two Persilats of the same team perform a choreographed routine of technical skill, rich in the movement of Pencak Silat.  The movements of flanking, evasion, attack and counter-attack are performed with well planned, effective, aesthetic, and powerful intention. The routine is performed in an orderly series, using empty hand and weapon according to rules and regulations that apply for the Ganda category.

Rules for GANDA(Double):

Ganda Category: Costume Weapons

Uniform requirements are same as Jurus Tunggal

Weapons:

Required weapon: a golok/parang and toya (long stick)

Selected weapon: All Nusantara weapons are allowed.

(Nusantara weapons are traditional and historic arms from the Malay Archipelago (Nusantara), including the Keris (Kris), a culturally significant dagger with a distinctive wavy blade; the Badik, a similar dagger; and the Kerambit, a claw-like knife)

Sequence of using required and additional weapons (after empty hand is demonstrated) is up to discretion of pesilat.

*Review acceptable tolerances/dimensions in the Technical Rule book.*

*Weapons are certified and approved by the Competition Chairman and placed at quarantine.  Before pesilat enters arena pesilat/coach will be allowed to collect immediately after name is announced.

SHOWCASE OF GANDA

Begin with bare-hand movement

One Persilat using weapon while the other empty hand, or both Persilat using weapon

During performance the weapon transfers from one Persilat to the other

Release or drop weapon in accordance with the performance description (description provided by Persilat)

*Performed in 3 minutes

Competition procedure for Ganda

Jury entering arena from right side of the Competition Chairman

Jury respect/report to the Competition Chairman that they are ready to carry out their duties.

Jury take positions

Persilats enters from left side of Competition Chairman

Walks to center of arena

Persilats walks to place weapons in designated area according to performance and return to center of arena

Persilats show respect to Competition Chairman and turns back to show respect to Judges

Competition Chairman signals to Juries, timekeeper and competition officials to alert them to begin.

Persilats face each other, Gong sounds.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE FOR GANDA AND TIME KEEPING

End of performance (3 minutes)

Contestants show respect to the juries and competition chairman from the center of the arena

Persilats leave arena by the left side of Competition Chairman

Competition Chairman takes charge of showcase time

Timekeeper will keep track of time

The Competition Chairman will announce actual time. (should digital be used it will be displayed on screen)

RULES FOR GANDA

3 minutes participants perform richness of Jurus attack-defense with bare hand and weapons

Tolerance of +/-10 seconds allowed for pre-teen and pre-junior. +/-5 seconds allowed for junior, senior, masters

Same deductions/penalties for going over time as Jurus Tunggal

Uttering sound is allowed

PENALTIES FOR GANDA

Deduction of 0.5 points penalty will be imposed to the following:

Contestant crosses the arena borderline (10m x 10m)

Each time the weapon drops against description

Weapon did not drop as prescribed in the description

The weapons that was described as drop (in the description), drop outside the arena and pesilat crosses the arena to pick the weapon (as it is still needed for the showcase)

Using not proper weapon according to the regulation, or broken golok,

Broken toya, golok loose from its handle.

*No deduction of score for accessories falls (head band, sarong)

SCORING FOR GANDA

The score of attack-defense technique – bare-handed or armed, includes various attack-defense techniques by hands or foot such as: hitting, kicking, sweeping, dropping, parrying, dodging/evading, catching, locking, etc.

Base score starts at 9.1

Scoring shall focus on the following elements:

a. The quality of attack-defense techniques in barehanded as well as using weapons.

b. The richness of attack-defense techniques in barehanded as well as using weapons.

c. The skill and creativity of attack-defense techniques

d. The logic in executing attack-defense technique

Score ranges from 0 to .30 points which is the total score of the above four elements of technique.

FIRMNESS SCORE FOR GANDA

Firmness score consists of elements of firmness, harmony, courage of both Persilats during performance.

Scoring shall focus on the following elements:

a. Firmness and strictness of movement

b. Harmony/solidity of both Pesilats

c. Courage in weapon skill

d. Power and stamina

Score ranges from 0 to 0.30 points which is the integrated score of the

above four elements of firmness.

SOULFULNESS SCORE FOR GANDA

Soulfulness score includes the following elements:

a. The harmony of expression of movement soulfulness

b. The harmony of movement rhythm score ranges from 0 to 0.30 points which is the integrated score of both elements of soulfulness.

DECISIONS AND WINNER

The winner is the contestant who gains the highest score for his/her performance from 3 out of 5 jurors with elimination of the highest and the lowest score.

If scores are equal: Standard deviation internationally or the contestant who gains the total highest Technique points from the 3 jurors

The contestant who gains the highest points in firmness, soulfulness and stamina from 3 jurors.

The contestant whose duration of performance is the closest to precise time of 3 minutes.

The winner is the contestant who gains the least penalty points.

If the result remains the same, the Competition Chairman will do a toss coin witnessed by Technical Delegate, Council of Juror and Team Managers of respective contestants.
